  1. What can Medised for Children be used for?

    For the treatment of mild to moderate pain including teething pain, headache, sore throat, aches and pains. For the symptomatic relief of influenza, feverishness and feverish colds. It also controls excessive mucous secretion (runny nose) and eases nasal irritation. Also helps restful sleep.

  2. How often can it be used?

    Medised for Children should only be used when your child is unwell and when pain or fever are the primary symptoms. You should not use any medicine for longer than stated on the packaging and patient information leaflet. When a child is unwell Medised for Children can be used for a maximum of 3 or 4 times a day with at least 4 hours between doses. It should not be used for more than 3 days, if your child is still unwell contact your doctor.

  3. How does it differ from paracetamol only & ibuprofen only products?

    Medised for Children is different because it contains 2 active ingredients. The 1st active ingredient is ‘paracetamol’ which provides effective relief from pain and fever (including teething, sore throat, headache, and fever as a result of cold and flu). The 2nd active ingredient is a mild antihistamine called ‘diphenhydramine’, which helps clear blocked stuffy noses and eases nasal irritation associated with colds, helping restful sleep.

  4. When should I not use Medised for Children

    You should not use Medised for Children if your child has a hypersensitivity to paracetamol, and/or any other ingredients in the medicine.

    Large doses of antihistamines should not be administered to children who are epileptic.

  5. What are the side effects & warnings?

    Do not take Medised for Children with any other paracetamol containing products. Immediate medical advice should be sought in the event of an overdose, even if the child seems well.

    Medised should not be administered to a child if they have hypersensitivity to paracetamol, and/or any other constituents. Large doses of antihistamines may precipitate fits in epileptics.

    Adverse effects of paracetamol are rare but hypersensitivity, including skin rash, may occur.

  6. What age of child can it be used?

    The medicine can be used in children from two years. Medised for Children should not be given to children under two years except on the advice of a doctor.

  7. Can it be used post immunisation?

    Only on the advice of a doctor. Medised can only be used from two years.

  8. How does Medised for Children ease breathing and aid restful sleep?

    The 2nd active ingredient in the medicine ‘diphenhydramine’ is an antihistamine. This specific antihistamine works by reducing the amount of mucous in the nasal passages, therefore reducing the irritation of a blocked stuffy nose, allowing the child to breathe easier, this can help the child to get restful sleep. The antihistamine may also cause drowsiness.

    Medised for Children should not be used to help children sleep when they are not suffering from pain or fever. Please see relevant section in children’s ailments for further information.

  9. What does the product come in?

    The medicine comes in an amber coloured glass bottle (100ml or 200ml sizes available) with cardboard box. An administering spoon is contained inside the cardboard packaging.

  10. Where can I buy Medised?

    Medised for Children is available from your local pharmacy or the pharmacy counter in leading Grocery outlets nationwide. It is not available in store aisles.

  11. Why do I have to ask for the product at the Pharmacy counter instead of self-selecting like some other children’s medicines?

    Medised for Children is classified as a ‘Pharmacy Only’ medicine, therefore requiring a sale only to be made when a Pharmacist is present to ensure that the product is suitable for the customer and that any warnings are communicated at the point of purchase.

  12. What flavour is Medised for Children, what does it look like and does it contain sugar?

    The medicine is a clear to pale pink syrup with a strawberry flavour to make it pleasant tasting. The medicine is sugar free as well as being colour free, alcohol free and free from animal derived ingredients.

  13. Can it be taken for coughs and colds?

    Medised for Children can be taken to relieve the symptoms of colds and flu, however, it is not suitable to be taken to relieve a cough alone. Consult your pharmacist for a suitable product to relieve cough symptoms. It is important to mention to your pharmacist if you have been using Medised as this may affect their decision on the most suitable cough product to recommend.

  14. Can it be used in the daytime and nighttime?

    Medised for Children can be used at any time of the day or night, provided no more than 4 doses are given in a 24 hour period (allow at least 4 hours between doses or as directed by your doctor). This medicine can cause drowsiness, which may be more severe in some children than others. If your child does suffer from drowsiness after taking this product, you should keep a careful eye on him to prevent accidents occurring (e.g. do not let him ride a bicycle if drowsy).

  15. What is the dosage?

    2 years to under 6 years – 1-2 5ml spoonfuls 3-4 times daily
    6 years to under 12 years – 2-4 5ml spoonfuls 3 times daily
    Under 2 years – on doctors advice only

    Allow at least 4 hours between doses or as directed by your doctor, no more than 4 doses should be taken in any 24 hour period. Do not exceed the stated dose if symptoms persist doses should not be continued for more than 3 days without consulting a doctor.

  16. Do I have to give my child the fully recommended dosage?

    Medised for Children should be given as and when needed, without exceeding the recommended dosage (as given above). It is not necessary to give the full dosage every day if your child does not need it. The dosage recommendations are calculated so that a child will receive enough medication for the product to work within safe limits. If you do not give your child the full dose of Medised for Children they may not get enough medicine for it to have an effect on their symptoms.

  17. Are there any ways I can make it easier for my child to take the medicine?

    The correct dose of Medised for Children can be mixed with a little milk or fruit juice if preferred.

  18. How long should I use it for before consulting a doctor?

    If symptoms persist, doses should not be continued for more than 3 days without consulting a doctor.
